At Insaafi, our mission is rooted in the principles of justice and fairness. Inspired by our shared histories and experiences, we are a creative and activist-led organisation committed to creating opportunities, challenging inequalities, and pushing for meaningful change.
Our journey began in South London during the 1980s, a time when youth activism and cultural innovation flourished amidst stark realities of racism and marginalisation. This legacy fuels our work today as we strive to address the needs of racially minoritised and marginalised communities across England and Wales.
With over 40 years of experience in grassroots activism, arts, and community development, Insaafi builds on the foundation laid by pioneering organisations such as Action in Reaction (AIR) and Aajkal Theatre. From creating streetwise theatre that resonated with diverse audiences to blending art forms like hip-hop, dance, and spoken word, our history is rich with creativity and resilience.
Today, Insaafi continues this legacy with a forward-thinking approach that combines social justice, policy, arts, and heritage. Our work encompasses:
- Creative solutions* to issues of discrimination and injustice
- Skill sharing and employment* opportunities for marginalised communities
- Archival and heritage projects* that celebrate hidden narratives and inter-generational learning
- Collaborative initiatives* that foster solidarity and disrupt harmful narratives
We believe in collective strength and are committed to working with others to amplify impact. Our lived experience and deep connections within diverse communities uniquely position us to make a difference where it is most needed.
At Insaafi, we honor the struggles of the past while building a just and equitable future for all. Join us in our journey to create change and leave a lasting legacy.
What’s in a name?
Insaafi means justice and fairness in Arabic/Urdu/Hindi. Saqib has been driven by this fight from a young age, growing up in South London and working across the country but with an understanding of this at a global level with our struggles across the world.
