SAQIB DESHMUKH - DIRECTOR
An activist, youth worker and writer. Saqib has been active in policing and social justice campaigns with children and young people over the last 30 years. He has experience of frontline work in different parts of the country and of safeguarding practice across 5 local authorities and was on Leicester Children's Trust Board in 2010-2012 and the Child Q Core Review Group in 2021-2022. Between 2016 and 2021 he served on the Board of the Institute of Race Relations and recently was the Interim CEO at the Alliance for Youth Justice. He is currently Director of Insaafi CiC a new not for profit that combines the worlds of arts, heritage and justice
YASMIN BEGUM - ASSOCIATE PARTNER
Yasmin Begum is a writer, campaigner, producer. and creative practitioner based in her hometown of Cardiff, Wales. She is a graduate of the School and Oriental African Studies and is currently working on a project funded by Arts Council Wales exploring decolonisation and Welsh cakes. In 2021, she was named a "Rising Star" on the Pinc List, a list of Wales' most influential LGBTQ people and Yasmin is a recipient the Olive Morris Campaigning Award 2022.
Her campaign and petition to remove the statue of Thomas Picton was pivotal in removing him from the Hall of Heroes in Cardiff City Hall. Yasmin works in both English and Welsh, and she has published in both languages with BBC Cymru Fyw, Gal-Dem, Media Diversified, S4C, and The National (Scotland). A recognised expert in Welsh Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic heritage, Yasmin is also a volunteer with the Tiger Bay Exchange. In her free time, she enjoys hiking.
