In 1919, three Black men stood trial in Cardiff as riot stokers. The crime? Brushing into a white shoulder. For three days in the summer of 1919, the city of Cardiff was the site of the worst race riots on record in the history of Britain. Despite its severity, this history remains largely overlooked in our communities: there has never been a definitive book written on the subject, and it has only recently begun to be taught in Welsh schools.

The walk took place from Cardiff Central Train station at 3pm and then through the city with an event at 5pm at Wales Millennium centre with local speakers and short film screenings. This project traced the radical histories of race and resistance to honour the memories connected to the riots and reflected on this crucial yet neglected part of the heritage of Cardiff.
